How to type Tamil online
- Enter phonetic Tamil in the Tanglish box. Use
aa,eeandoofor long vowels. - Choose Convert to Tamil, or enable live conversion before typing. Conversion replaces the result; manual edits belong in the Tamil box.
- Check the spelling, make corrections and choose Copy Tamil or Download .txt.
Phonetic keyboard guide
This is a simple, predictable letter mapping, not a dictionary. Double consonants when needed: ammaa → அம்மா. Punctuation, numbers and existing Tamil characters are preserved. All Latin words are converted, so add English words directly to the result afterward.

A consonant without a following vowel receives a pulli: k → க். Use an apostrophe to separate sounds when needed: n'a → ந்அ (the separator is removed).
What can you use this Tamil editor for?
Prepare Tamil messages, school notes, social captions and email drafts. The result uses Unicode, so it can be pasted into modern apps and documents without a special font conversion. This tool does not convert Bamini or other legacy font encodings.
Privacy and saved drafts

How do I type Tamil using an English keyboard?
Enter Tamil sounds in the Tanglish box, then choose Convert to Tamil. For example, thamizh becomes தமிழ் and vaNakkam becomes வணக்கம். Edit the result or use the Tamil character buttons to correct spelling.
Is this an English-to-Tamil translator?
No. This tool transliterates Tamil sounds written with Latin letters into Tamil script. It does not translate English meanings or predict the spelling of every word.
What is the difference between n, N and L?
The mapping is case-sensitive: n gives ந, N gives ண, nn gives ன, l gives ல, L gives ள and zh gives ழ. Use the keyboard guide to choose the sound you need.
Is my text saved or sent to a conversion service?
Conversion runs in your browser without sending text to a conversion service. Save draft is optional and stores both text boxes in this browser. Forget saved draft removes that copy. The website also loads its shared advertising and analytics scripts.
Can I use the Tamil text in WhatsApp, Word or email?
Yes. Copy the Unicode Tamil result and paste it into apps that support Tamil, or download a UTF-8 text file. A separate legacy Tamil font is not required.
Does Tamil typing work on a phone?
Yes. The editor adapts to small screens. You can convert Tanglish, type with your device’s Tamil keyboard, or insert characters with the on-screen keyboard.
