High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) for Vehicles in India

The government of India has made it compulsory High Security Registration Plate for all vehicles manufactured after April 1, this year to have High-Security Registration Plates. The new number plates consisting of a Hologram sticker and LASER embossed Registration Number cannot be removed.

The Registration Plate is made of 1 mm thick aluminium and comes with a whole lot of safety features. One important thing to note is that the number plate cannot be removed or reused once installed. The Registration plate has assured a warranty of 5 years. HSRP aims at eliminating vehicle frauds and also to end the use of fake number plates to mislead police while indulging in illegal activities.

High-Security Registration Plate Includes

1. A Hot Stamped Chromium Based Ashoka Chakra Symbol: This is to prevent the creation of fake/duplicate registration plates.
2. IND- indicating the International Registration code for India.
3. A Unique 10 Digit Laser-Etched Serial Number
4. A Non Removable non-reusable snap lock: Once it is snaped and locked the number plate cannot be removed or reused.
5. India inscribed black hot stamping foil.
6. The borders are embossed and are rounded to avoid injuries.
7. The unique Alphanumeric code`s (eg: KL 13 AB 1234)
8. The First 2 letters denote the State where the vehicle is registered, The next 2 numbers denote the RTO / SRTO where the vehicle is registered. The rest of the numbers denotes a unique alphanumeric code for the vehicle.

High-Security Registration Plate, Things to Know

• The Registration Plate will be installed on the vehicle by the Dealer
• Only after the number plate is installed and the data is fed to the “Vaahan” Software the RC book can be processed.
• The expense for the High-Security Registration Plate and its installation charge will be bundled with the Vehicle Cost and dealers cannot charge any additional fee for the same.

If your vehicle is manufactured after April 1 and you don`t possess an HSRP you are liable to pay a fine between ₹2000/- to ₹5000/-
