1000 free public Wi-Fi hotspots across the State
At the #Future2018 event, the Chief Minister of Kerala Shri Pinarayi Vijayan announced that the State government would provide 1000 free public Wi-Fi hotspots across the State. These Hotspots will be powered by Cisco technology.
Kerala will be the first state in India with the largest public Wi-Fi network providing statewide access, enabling free Internet for ordinary people. District Collectors have been asked to identify the hotspots, with the assistance of the District e-governance Societies and inform the Kerala State IT mission, the nodal agency for implementing the ₹25-crore project, of the same.
Sudhir Nayar, Managing Director, Commercial Sales, Cisco India and SAARC said, “The vision outlined by the Honorable Chief Minister of Kerala will help harness the power of digital transformation to accelerate economic growth and social progress in the State. We are excited to be a part of Kerala’s digital journey and believe that this sets an example that other States can replicate.”
150 users at a time
Each selected location will be designed to cater to at least 150 concurrent Internet users within a range of 100 to 200 meters, based on the technical feasibility of the area. Each district has been asked to recommend 70 to 80 locations.
