Steps to Get a New Passport in the UAE
- Firstly, you should go to the nearest police station where you lost your passport and register a complaint.
- When you go to the police station, keep these documents to submit at the police station:
– Two passport size photo (recently taken)
– If available, submit a copy of the last passport.
– In the case of minors, parents or sponsor should be present.
– For expatriates on company sponsorship- submit stamped letter from the company (printed), copies of company’s trade licence and Establishment card. If you are in a UAE based individual’s sponsorship, submit sponsor signature and his or her valid passport.
- Receive the police report that you need to share with other government departments.
- Then go to the Dubai Court Reception department and produce the early received police report. They will enter the details of the report in their system and stamp the report (free of cost).
- Move to the Public Prosecution department (adjacent to the court) and submit the police report for free of cost.
- And submit the police report to the GDRFA (General Directorate of residency and Foreigners Affairs). Here you need to pay Dh20 for stamping the police report.
- Then go back to the police station (you register the complaint), from there you will get the “Loss Passport” certificate in Arabic language.
- You can bring the certificate to your Embassy and follow the legal formalities to get a new passport.
- Some embassies demand to translate the “Loss Passport” in their regional language.
- After getting the new passport, go to the GDRFA department to get a new visa.
Note: Emirates can go to the General Department of Investigation directly to get a new passport.
Once you get a new passport, now you need to get a residence visa. From the Residency Department you will get the residency visa with the same validity period they had in the lost passport. Here you need to submit the documents such as, loss passport certificate given from the police station, newly issued passport and data list of lost residence permit.
If the sponsor is working in a government or semi- govt department, submit a copy of the establishment card, while the sponsor working in the private sector, submit both the copy of a commercial licence and establishment card (only accept valid copy). You need to pay an amount of Dh170 to get a residence permit.
