Let’s see what is NFC. Today we will talk about a trending technology. This technology is known as NFC. The full name is Near Field Communication. As the name suggests, it is a technology that is used to communicate wirelessly and securely between two nearby devices. NFC has a different use than Wi-Fi and Bluetooth even before.
There are two types of NFC
1. NFC Tags – This is a magnetic storage.
All you have to do is store it on a magnetic tag and use it anywhere.
Let’s see a small use of this technology. You want to share the Wi-Fi in the office with 100 guests. Not everyone can share the Wi-Fi password. NFC tag can be used very effectively in this context. All you need to do is download NFC tools/any other NFC managing app from the Play Store. After turning on NFC in the wireless networks setting on the phone, hold the NFC tag focused on the backside of the phone.
From the downloaded application select the action you want example: configure wifi. Enter your Wi-Fi username and password. Then store (writing to NFC) on the NFC tag. Now paste the NFC tag anywhere in the office. When the guest asks for Wi-Fi, show the back side of their mobile phone towards the NFC tag. Communication between the device and the NFC tag will take place and Wi-Fi will be connected.
NFC tags are available in the market at various prices and types. Available from Amazon.com starting from RS 100/-.
So start your Wi-Fi and save all the password typing time. There is no need to share the password. Similarly, NFC tags can be used to start music, make the phone silent, and turn on the alarm.
This was really secure technology back then. This is because the communication between the devices takes place only at a very short distance. Most of the smartphones coming out now are NFC-supportive. From iPhone 7 onwards, NFC can be used in the Samsung Galaxy series as well.
2. Second type- Direct Access from credit and debit cards – Apple Pay, Samsung Pay.etc
Let’s see how the payment is done without the password and when the card is presented on the machine.
This is done by the payment machine reading the information, including the password, stored on the card’s magnetic strip.
Apple Pay and Samsung Pay are the new payment systems. What it does is store our credit/debit cards digitally in their app. Payment is made by phone. After turning on the payment app (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay) on our phone, payment is made by showing it on the payment device in the shop. This communication technology is called NFC.
