Located about 50 km southwest of Sharjah city, Buhais Geology Park is a unique museum dedicated to its prehistoric and geological significance. The park has an abundance of marine fossils dating back more than 65 million years. This historic destination allows you to walk across the rugged cliffs of Jebel Buhais, with stunning mountain ranges, and ancient burial sites and can learn about unusual rock formations.
About Buhais Geology Park
If you visit Buhais Park, you will learn about the different colors and textures of rock and mountain formations in Sharjah. Meanwhile, in Hall 1 of the Park, you can interact with the history of the Earth’s surface and in Hall 2, exhibits explaining the different types of rocks and formations. On the third and final part of the outdoor trail, you can see Bronze Age tombs and many rock formations and fossils in the UAE. However, the park is a flagship ecotourism project aimed at educating visitors about Sharjah’s geological history.
Buhais Geology Park Interior
The distinctive interior of BG Park is made up of six pods, whose geometry is inspired by the fossilized urchins found at the site. Hopkins Architects (London-based designer team) designed these interconnected pods of varying sizes. It includes exhibition areas, an immersive theatre, a cafe with panoramic views of the dramatic Jebel Buhais mountain rising almost 100 meters high, a gift shop and other visitor facilities. The sixth pod serves as a service building.
Activities in Buhais Geology Park
The park has a large cafe where you can enjoy hot or cold drinks or snacks with your friends and family with a view of Jebel Buhais. Another activity is a park theatre that provides fascinating historical insights. The theatre show depicts how fossils form in the mountains of Sharjah. In addition, visitors to the park will receive a guide and you can choose Arabic or English language.
